Fixed Star Magic

Last week a fixed star called my name and I was inspired to share this experience. During my morning meditation I was shown a symbol, it seemed familiar, and I thought I might have seen it before. After the meditation I sat quietly and intuitively felt that this symbol might be an ancient character attributed to one of the Fifteen Fixed Stars.

The Fifteen Fixed Stars named Algol, The Pleiades cluster, Aldebaran, Capella, Sirius, Procyon, Regulus, The Wing of the Crow, Spica, Arcturus, Alkaid, Alphecca, Antares, Vega and Deneb Algedi were recorded as having magical powers in ancient times.

I consulted my De Quindecim Stellis (The Comprehensive Translations of Hermes on the Fifteen Fixed Stars, translated by Regulus Hess with a commentary by Christopher Warnock) and found the symbol was indeed the character that Hermes had allotted to the star Alphecca. Immediately intrigued, I looked up the current positions of the planets in relation to this fixed star. The moon was joining Alphecca in the sky. The position of the moon and sun were also found to be in an alignment recommended for practicing magic under this star. That night I performed a magic ritual at a time based on the planetary positions. Alphecca’s virtue is of friendship and love, a beautiful force to tap into.

This experience had a profound effect on me, the cosmos is always whispering softly but we need to be still to hear it. While I had been performing my shamanic rituals every day I had not performed any astrological magic for a while and had not ever done a stellar specific ceremony. I was called to do that ceremony which felt very special and a clear reminder of the power of tuning into deeper intuition through meditation, in addition to the intellectual and very technical side of astrology and astrological magic.

Astrological magic is a powerful ancient art which has been brought back into modern times by people such as Christopher Warnock and Kaitlin Coppock. Kaitlin founded Sphere and Sundry and if you would like some healing magic in your life, that is the place to go! Personally, I love combining my two passions of astrology and shamanic medicine to create some gentle magic under the stars.

The Fifteen Fixed Stars have vices and virtues and must be treated with the utmost respect. Each of them has an appointed stone and corresponding herb/s representing their force.

It is imperative to choose specific times to work with these stars according to precise planetary and stellar alignments.

Currently I do not include fixed star interpretation in astrological consultations. I am feeling my way with them. However, other astrologers do use the astrological insight from these fixed star placements in natal charts.

This experience has only strengthened my reverence (if that is even possible) for the ancient arts. Astrology and shamanic medicine are part of my daily life and I could not live without either of them.

I hope Alphecca’s virtue of love and friendship are bestowed upon all who read this post.
